A concerned Liverpool mother calls for urgent action after mould and damp in her home lead to serious health issues for her son, despite repeated repair requests.
A Liverpool mother, Nicola Lee, has raised serious health concerns over her six-year-old son due to extensive damp and mould problems in their Walton home. Nicola claims that ever since she and her son, George, moved into the property, they’ve experienced persistent issues with mould and damp that appear to worsen over time. She reports that George has been experiencing continuous health problems, including fevers, vomiting, and a prolonged cough. Nicola, too, has suffered from respiratory issues that she believes are linked to the poor conditions.
Nicola has repeatedly contacted her housing association, Onward, which owns the building, in hopes of resolving these issues. However, she feels the responses have been inadequate, and that her concerns are not being taken seriously. The repairs contractor, Axis Europe, has attempted fixes, but Nicola claims the efforts have been superficial, such as simply washing walls or applying minimal plaster repairs.
The conditions have reached a point where Nicola found mould spreading under floorboards, carpets, and even on furniture, making the living conditions increasingly distressing. Recently, she discovered mould on her son’s bed and mattress, which forced her to purchase a new bed for him.
In response, Onward has apologized for the distress caused to Nicola and her son, assuring her that further inspections will take place. A recent inspection on November 1 identified a patch of damp in the living room and some exterior pointing issues, with additional repairs scheduled to begin on November 11. Onward representatives have stated they take tenant reports of damp and mould very seriously, emphasizing the importance of tenants reaching out for assistance with such problems.
Nicola, however, remains deeply frustrated and worried about the impact of these conditions on her family’s health. She hopes the housing association will take more decisive action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its tenants.
