Damp is on the rise, with around 400 Social Housing homes in Wiltshire being affected
In Wiltshire, nearly 400 Social Housing homes currently have active cases of damp and mould, with varying levels of severity reported. While most cases are minor, 149 are affecting air quality, and 13 pose respiratory risks or allergy concerns, with three cases being classified as serious health hazards. These findings are part of a report to be reviewed by the Wiltshire Council’s Environment Select Committee on November 12, highlighting the council’s efforts and challenges in managing housing conditions for its 5,300 Social Housing homes..
Wiltshire Council, responsible for maintenance and compliance of these properties, claims “a high level of performance” across key compliance indicators. However, increased reporting during autumn and winter has delayed the council’s goal of investigating damp cases within seven days, with current investigations averaging an 11-day timeline. While the council notes that proposed UK regulations would require landlords to assess hazards within 14 days, they claim delays are attributed to access issues and tenant availability.
